Reporting brings together data from across Education: applications, registrations, results and more. A report never widens what you can see. Its header says **Your permitted scope** to remind you of that.

## How a report keeps to your access

- A report is a definition: its blocks, their questions and their layout. It holds no copy of the data.
- Every time a block runs, Reporting asks the module that owns the data (Admissions, Registration, Grading and so on). The module checks your access at that moment and answers only what you may read there.
- If your access changes, the next run follows it. A block you can no longer read says so instead of showing numbers.

## What this means for you

- Two people can open the same report and see different numbers, because each sees their own scope.
- **Explain this number** shows how a number was made, from the data you may read.
- **Download** puts in the file only what the report shows you.
- A **Template** is a starting report that everyone with Reporting can open. **Make a copy** turns it into a report of your own that you can change.
