Accessibility statement

The University of Nicosia operates the Evolve platform and is responsible for its accessibility. This statement records the standard the platform targets, its current conformance status, and how to report problems.

Commitment

The University of Nicosia is committed to making the Evolve platform usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnification, switch devices, or keyboard-only input.

Accessibility requirements are part of the platform's engineering process. New work is checked before it ships, and known gaps are tracked and remediated under a defined program.

Standard applied

Evolve targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is the standard referenced by EN 301 549, the European accessibility requirement for ICT products and services.

Conformance status

Evolve is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA: the platform's automated checks report zero violations, but the formal claim of full conformance cannot be made until manual verification with assistive technology, the remaining step, is complete.

The conformance assessment reflected in this statement was performed on July 9, 2026. The statement was first published on July 6, 2026 and is updated as scheduled assessments complete and remediation work ships.

What has been verified

All 594 page variants of the platform pass automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks (axe-core) with zero violations, in both light and dark themes.
Every proposed code change is re-checked automatically and is blocked from release if it would introduce a violation.
Each production release publishes machine-readable accessibility evidence, archived with the release record.
This statement and the platform interface are available in 58 languages with correct language metadata.

Outstanding work

Manual verification with assistive technologies (screen readers, magnification, switch access) across a representative sample of pages is scheduled.

How conformance is maintained

The Evolve platform changes frequently. The University of Nicosia therefore maintains accessibility as a continuous obligation applied to every change, rather than as a periodic exercise.

Measures in operation

Automated verification: Every page of the platform is tested against the machine-verifiable requirements of WCAG 2.2 Level AA using automated tooling, in both light and dark presentation themes. These checks run on every proposed change before it is released. A change that would introduce a new violation is rejected automatically and cannot reach users.
Release evidence: Each production release generates a machine-readable record of its accessibility test results. These records are retained for every deployed version of the platform, so its conformance status at any point in time can be evidenced.

Planned measures

Manual review: Requirements that cannot be verified by automated tooling — including compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies — will be assessed through manual review. The first manual review has not yet been performed. Findings will be remediated and, where possible, converted into automated checks so that they remain verified on every subsequent change.
Recurring assessment: Following the first manual review, a sample-based internal assessment applying the WCAG-EM evaluation methodology will be conducted quarterly. The "statement last reviewed" date above is updated with each assessment cycle.

Known limitations

Despite the verification described above, the following limitations are known:

Complex interactive data visualizations: Some charts and graph views cannot yet be operated fully with a keyboard. Equivalent keyboard-accessible alternatives are in progress.
Prerecorded media: Some prerecorded video and audio content lacks captions. A captioning program is being established.
Third-party and user-authored content: Content supplied by third parties or authored by platform users may not fully conform. Reported problems in such content are reviewed and addressed where possible.

Enforcement procedure
