Send, edit, or delete a message

Choose the channel, direct message, or thread that should receive your message, check who can read it, then type and send. A channel is shared with its members; a direct message goes to the people in that conversation.

Send

1. Open the intended conversation and check its name above the messages.
2. Type in the message box. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
3. Press Enter or choose Send message.

Your message appears in the conversation. If it shows Message not sent. Retry when the connection is stable., check your connection and use Retry on that message. Do not compose a second copy while the first is still pending. If you attached a file, wait for its upload to finish before sending.

Edit your message

On a computer, point at your message or move keyboard focus to its controls to reveal the actions. On a phone, choose More message actions (the three dots) beside the message.

1. Open your message's actions and choose Edit message.
2. Change the text in Message text.
3. Press Enter to save, or Escape to cancel.

The edit control appears only when editing that message is allowed. If the edit fails, its text stays open with an error so you can try again.

Delete your message

1. Open your message's actions and choose Delete message.
2. Read Delete message? and choose Delete to confirm.

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Check that you selected the intended message before confirming.

If it did not work

• You cannot post in a channel explains read-only channels, access, and failed sends.
• Share a file in a channel explains uploads that are still in progress.
• If Edit message or Delete message is absent, check that the message finished sending and that it is yours.
