Choose New, then Upload folder. Pick the folder on your device and choose Add. Drive rebuilds the folder tree as it uploads, so the structure you see on your computer is the structure you get in Drive.
Upload
- Choose New, then Upload folder. The panel opens with the title Upload folder.
- Check Save to and change the destination if the folder does not belong in My Drive.
- Choose Choose folder and pick the folder. Dragging the folder onto the panel works too.
- Review the selection summary. It reports the detected upload type, the file count and the total size.
- Choose Add.
The panel states what it preserves: Sub-folders are preserved; empty folders are created too. Ordinary folder uploads no longer have the former 1,000-file selection limit. Drive queues the selected files and transfers a small number at a time. Supported file types, per-file size limits, destination permissions and available storage still apply.
Keep the browser tab open until the whole upload is complete. The panel displays Keep this tab open until all uploads are complete. You can hide this panel and continue using Drive. You can hide the panel and browse Drive while the files upload. Closing the tab interrupts the upload.
If you are already in the panel in files mode, Or add a folder switches to the folder picker without closing anything.
Resume an interrupted folder upload
Drive saves the folder upload queue in this browser, including files still waiting to start and files already saved. If the tab closes or reloads:
- Open Drive using the same browser profile and Evolve account as the original upload.
- Open the upload panel and find Unfinished folder uploads.
- Choose Resume folder and select the same original folder. Keep its files, names and sub-folder structure unchanged until the upload completes.
Completed and cancelled files are skipped. Unfinished files continue in their original destination folders; large multipart uploads reuse their saved parts when the upload session is still available. Files waiting in the queue start as slots become available. Changing the folder you are browsing in Drive does not change the saved upload destination.
Choose Discard beside an unfinished folder upload to remove its saved recovery queue from this browser. Files already uploaded stay in Drive. Discard is unavailable while that queue is active in another tab.
If files are missing or have changed, Drive asks for the original selection instead of substituting different files. Browser storage must be available to save the queue; clearing that storage removes the local recovery information. If the panel reports that it cannot save the queue, free browser storage and try again before starting.
Empty folders
Drive can create an empty folder only when your browser tells it the folder exists. Dragging the folder in, or picking it in a browser that supports the directory picker, reports empty folders; choosing files through the plain file dialog does not.
When empty folders are included, the summary lists each one as Empty folder and names the path that will be created. After the upload, Drive reports each path as uploaded, or as a folder that already exists.
What Drive skips
Operating-system noise is dropped without asking: .DS_Store, any file starting ._, and a top-level __MACOSX directory. Nothing else is filtered; unsupported files inside the tree are rejected individually.
If it did not work
- The selected folder could not be opened. means the browser refused the directory picker. Drag the folder onto the panel instead.
- Cancelling the picker closes it silently. Nothing is queued.
- A message naming one folder that could not be created applies to that empty folder alone. The files elsewhere in the tree still upload.
- For a rejected file inside the folder, see Accepted file types and Upload failed.
